Carter Lumber Expands in South Carolina
Carter Lumber is expanding its operations in Florence County, South Carolina. The $26 million investment will lead to the creation of 80 new jobs.
According to a news release from Governor Henry McMaster’s office, South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for this project. The council also approved a $100,000 Set-Aside grant for Florence County to aid with the costs of site preparation and building construction.
“Carter Lumber has done business in South Carolina since the 1970s, and it has always been a pro-business state filled with opportunities to grow. That same spirit exists in the state today, and we are excited to be opening this location to take advantage of those many opportunities. The manufactured products this new facility will produce are vital to builders in the region as it continues to grow. We look forward to partnering in that growth today and into the future,” Carter Lumber President Jeff Donley explained.
Carter Lumber, based in Kent, Ohio, is a privately held, family-owned firm with over 170 locations across the Midwest, mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. Besides from lumber, the company sells a wide range of building materials such as decking, doors, kitchens, siding, and windows. Carter Lumber is the fourth largest supplier of professionally focused lumber and building products in the United States.
This will be the company’s third location in South Carolina, following Easley and Rock Hill, and its first in Florence County. Carter Lumber plans to refurbish a 120,000-square-foot mill in Florence County in order to manufacture roof and floor trusses as well as hanging internal door components. This property will also serve as a millwork warehouse for stock mouldings, with things sent from the Florence County factory to residential, business, and multi-family job sites.
“South Carolina is a place where businesses come to thrive, and Carter Lumber’s investment is another testament to that fact. Congratulations to Carter Lumber, and we look forward to strengthening our partnership,” said Gov. McMaster.
