JELD-WEN will close two manufacturing locations

JELD-WEN has announced plans to simplify its North American window business by eliminating production plants in Vista, California, and Hawkins, Wisconsin.

The business stated that the news is another milestone in JELD-WEN’s transformation journey to strengthen the company’s base and position it for long-term, profitable growth.

The company anticipates incurring one-time expenditures of roughly $45 million as a result of these site closures, as well as yearly pre-tax income increases of at least $11 million.

The Vista, California facility makes composite windows (marketed and sold under the brand name Auraline) and employs roughly 110 people.

Multiple market considerations make it impossible to sustain the composite windows product line competitively, hence it will be discontinued.

As a result, JELD-WEN intends to close its Vista composite windows facility. Orders placed within 90 days of April 11, 2024 will be accepted and completed at the existing lead times.

JELD-WEN plans to incur one-time costs of about $21 million in 2024 as a result of the Vista closure, followed by an annual pre-tax income improvement of at least $4 million.

The Hawkins, Wisconsin, facility makes wood windows and employs roughly 340 workers.

JELD-WEN will merge Hawkins’ operations into its Rantoul, Illinois, wood window manufacturing facility.

The one-time expenditures associated with this site consolidation are expected to be around $24 million, with the majority of that coming in 2024.

After completing these initiatives, it is estimated that annual pre-tax income will increase by at least $7 million.

JELD-WEN will provide any updates about the closures during its quarterly results call on May 7, 2024.
